Deirdre Kirkman
"From nurse and farmers wife to radio presenter"

I was born in Ballina, Co Mayo, Ireland. I emigrated to New Zealand 46 years ago. I come from a musical family and was delighted when a previous Irish Programme Presenter (having heard me speak at a school meeting) approached me with the words " you are just the Irish voice I have been looking for".As you can imagine after some initial apprehension I was rapt to hear it was to assist with the Irish programme. There was just one small problem I was a nurse & a farmers wife & had never been inside a radio station before never mind a studio but hey I had the courage to come from the other side of the world so why not give it a go. Well here I am 25 years later and still enjoying that sense of pride knowing we are presenting pleasurable good music to our listeners on Radio Dunedin.
